GENERAL MEETING AGENDA:

Recording Secretary: Previous meeting minutes approval

We are dispensing with the reading of the minutes from the last meeting.  We MUST approve and/or amend these minutes.  They are posted on tables around the meeting room.  The Secretary will call for "a motion to dispense with the reading of the previous general meeting minutes."  If there are no objections, we can then move to vote to approve the minutes.

Membership Dues are due in December each year. You can start handing in your dues at the November meeting.

GENERAL MEETINGS:

Friday October 3, 2008, Laura Wasilowski, Explore the artist's quirky mind with this lecture about quilt making in a series.  Enjoy the revelation that one chicken quilt will surely lead to a second, third, or fortieth.  And discover what drives a person to create multiple quilts about a blue chair, garden implements, or unsung kitchen appliances.  All are revealed in this expose, which includes dramatic renditions from Songs of the Fuser.  Laura will display her small quilts (mini-series) and offer a trunk show of hand dyed fabric and thread from Artfabrik dyers.

Wednesday, November 5, Joseph & Melanie Darensod’s “Theory of the Underground Railroad Secret Code of Quilts” lecture, complete with period clothing. The presentation tells the oral history that surrounds the secret code of quilts, which some people believe were used to help escaping slaves during the era of the underground railroad. The use of symbols and color in quilt blocks, the connection to West African culture and mnemonic devices found in music & stories are discussed. Interesting stories are told that tie in famous figures along the underground railroad.

PS: Chinese Auction items can be handed in up to this meeting to Linda Lee or her helpers for the December meeting…
