29th Annual Peconic Quilt Show, June 5 & 6, 2010
Suffolk Community College, Riverhead, NY
Twisted Traditions
This year ELIQG followed a quilt show theme of Twisted Traditions.
The theme was based upon the process of altering blocks to create unique variations.
This leads us to look at designs in new and exciting ways.

Pictured above is the center of the 2010 raffle quilt, created from the Eureka
pattern by Jackie Robinson, Animas Quilts Publishing, www.animas.com

2010 Member Challenge : Block In A Block (In A Block...)
This year’s challenge involved members combining at least 2 traditional and well-known blocks into a single block. Think putting a star block, or three different blocks into a baby block, or a Seminole strip into a rail fence. The "inside" block may be whole or cut from a whole block. So making a whig rose by cutting up a log cabin into the petals would meet the criteria. More than 2 blocks can be combined. Quilts may be pieced or appliquéd or any combination. An appliqué quilt would need to either have at least one well-known traditional block as one of its components and incorporate that into a appliqué block, or incorporate an appliqué block into a pieced block or contain at least one pieced block combo in a nontraditional appliqué quilt such as landscape. Members are encouraged to use this opportunity to think outside the box! The size must be a minimum of 24 x 24 and a maximum of 30 x 30 inches. Anything in between is fine (such as 24 x 27 or 28 x 28). The quilt can have odd angles and does not need to have straight sides, if that will fit your block better.
You must be an ELIQG member to participate. The quilt may be constructed using any method, and must meet the generally accepted definition of a quilt, i.e., a layer of batting between 2 layers of fabric, with some type of quilting or tying holding the layers together.

2010 Block Challenge : Tradition With A Twist
Members and Non-members were asked to make a block based on the theme Tradition with a Twist. It must be must be a rectangle 12 ½" wide by 9 ½" high(finished size 12" by 9"). Choose any traditional block and change it from a square to a rectangle. The block MUST contain the color purple. The block may be pieced or appliquéd or a combination of both. The block may be embellished but NOT quilted. All blocks received by the deadline date were assembled into a quilt top. The makers of the blocks were entered into the drawing for the quilt top.

The Kent Animal Shelter is a private, not for profit humane society founded in 1968 to provide a haven for homeless, abused nd abandoned animals until new homes can be found. The shelter never destroys an animal unless incurably ill. Over 600 animals are placed in responsible homes each year and more than 300 animals are spayed or neutered at the Kent low cost Spay/Neuter clinic. Kent Animal Shelter also has a Pet Therapy Program and a Retirement Home Program for cats that survive their owners. Located on the scenic property near the Peconic River, with a dedicated staff, spacious exercise facilities and expert medical supervision, Kent is much more than a shelter. We have been bringing pets and people together for over 40 years. We have over 100 pets waiting for loving homes.
